Growing up I learned a little lesson from watching my parents. My mom always loved a deal, and there’s nothing wrong with that. And that helped me learn something, something I say all the time, “you get what you pay for”. And that includes cheap web design.
Cheap web design may sound like a good idea. It’s just a website right? It’s not gonna hurt anything. Right? I’m sorry to say… but… wrong.
There’s a problem with cheap web design. I know it may seem appealing. The idea of doing it yourself can be scary and overwhelming. But it’s all in the preparation.
And when it comes to preparation, an essential step is to plan your website out before you even start building it. I’ve put together something to help you with just that.
The idea of building your own website can be scary though.
I Get Why Cheap Web Design Is Appealing

The idea of doing it yourself is scary and overwhelming. So it seems like it’s an easier option… just paying someone a small fee to put one together seems even more appealing.
And paying someone a small fee sounds even nicer when the average website costs upwards of two thousand dollars.
And when you’re faced with either a large chunk of change or doing it yourself, I get it. It sounds a lot nicer to go cheap.
But there’s a problem.
The Problem with Cheap Web Design

Don’t get me wrong here when I say there’s a problem. I know everyone starts somewhere. I know web designers learn, and they learn by starting off cheap.
I even started that way. So I know just about every web designer starts cheap.
But the goal is to steadily increase your prices with every website you do.
The problem happens when the price never changes. And that means there’s no learning, changing, or adapting on the part of the designer.
Which results in a website that’s potentially dated, poorly built, and not going to suit you very long in the long run.
What to Do

If you really have to go the route of cheap web design, look at past websites. Check the quality of the work. Ask how they’re building the website, and educate yourself on that. It’s one thing to build a cheap website with a good tool, versus one that doesn’t have the capabilities of building a website you need.
The better option, do it yourself. With the right tools you can build your own website.
The two tools I use most in my business. WordPress & Elementor.
I know it can be overwhelming to think about doing your own website. And that’s okay, it’s normal. It’s all in the preparation.
